Young Musicians

Young Musicians concert 2010

The Music Society has been bringing the highest quality music to the West Linton area for over 60 years.  In April 2013, the Society ran a workshop to think about new ways that the Society could play its part in the musical life of our part of the Borders in the future.

Instead of staging a programme of 6 concerts each year, as it has done in the past, the Society now plans to focus instead on supporting one-off musical events throughout the year, providing financial support, resource and expertise in concert organisation and promotion to anyone in the area who brings forward a music-based idea that could be developed into such an event.

Already, the Society has set up working groups in conjunction with local people to take forward a number of musical projects:

  • staging the Young Musicians Festival Concert every March
  • sponsoring musical workshops in local schools
  • arranging concerts by professional musicians in local venues
  • developing closer links with Music in Peebles and Biggar Music Club – you may have noticed some publicity material for these concerts around the village – if anyone would like to go along, please get in touch as we may be able to help with transport.

All of these groups are currently quite small, and so the Society is looking for more local people interested in music to join in and support the work that the groups are doing.

If you or anyone you know in the West Linton area has an idea for something musical that they would like to see brought to the area, or would like to join any of the working groups, then please get in touch with us.

Finally, we plan to send out regular e-mails to keep you informed about these initiatives  – if you would like to be added to our mailing list, please let us know.

If any of the above interest you, please get in touch with us by contacting Michael Pryor at

Sax Ecosse visited our school and gave the children a wonderful performance of music in a style which the children could easily recognise and relate to – mixing movie theme tunes and modern and classical music together in an entertaining way. They encouraged the children to join in their performance, ask questions and they were able to showcase their incredible skill and musical talent in a way that was fun and enjoyable. The sound of the saxophones being played together was fantastic. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience“. West Linton Primary School
